Crescent History
1935

The Joy boathouse gave the Club a roof over it’s head. Long and wide, well built with a splendid harbor and much to do. A big job, not for just an occasional workday but continually. Saturdays, Sunday nights, even Holidays were attacked by a crew of masons, carpenters, glaziers, plumbers and painters. Every piece of glass and stick of wood worth salvaging was recut and fitted to a new use. Doorways were moved to more convenient locations and doors rehung. Paint was bought as the cash box would stand.

Much of the planning and scheming to provide living quarters fell to Vice Commodore Finch as House Chairman. Yet with the many Club chores to handle, he and other Crescent Members were active on the water. It is recorded in the Club Minutes that Don Rutherford, "sailing the ‘Tattoo’ single-handed" won the coveted Pingree Bowl that year.

This trophy presented the problem of caring for so valuable trophy. About this time Bos’n Clark was installed as the Club’s first steward; and through Commodore Puddiford the Club acquired a watch dog "Barney".
